My timer keeps running while I have a problem

Use this article if you run into a technical problem during your assessment (environment not responding, connection dropped, button with no effect) and you notice that the remaining time keeps going down.

In short

The timer does not stop during a technical problem, and the minutes lost are not added back. This is not an error: it is how the assessment currently works. To make up for possible latency, 5 minutes are always added to the lab duration. If the problem lasts more than 3 minutes, do not spend your time retrying: contact Scalyz Support from the ? Help button. If a problem on our side stopped you from continuing, this attempt is not held against you and you receive new access.

Good to know

  • The timer starts when the lab opens, not when you click Start Assessment, and does not stop until your allotted time ends or you end the assessment yourself.
  • Time does not stop during a drop in your connection, while you switch browsers, or while you are in touch with Support.
  • The lab duration always includes 5 extra minutes to cover possible latency of the environment.
  • Beyond 5 minutes of blockage, a fair assessment between candidates is no longer possible on this attempt: stop the lab, do not try to continue and report the problem.
  • Scalyz Support checks the state of your environment at the moment you were blocked. Once the problem is confirmed, this attempt is not held against you and you receive a new invitation; Support informs your recruiter itself.
  • Reporting a problem does not extend your time. The new access, if granted, comes as a new invitation.
  • If your allotted time runs out, your assessment ends on its own and the work present in your environment is checked normally.

When to contact Scalyz Support

If your environment, your terminal or a button still does not respond 3 minutes after the problem started, contact Scalyz Support from the ? Help button, without waiting for your time to run out. If your time has already run out, contact Scalyz Support from the help bubble in your Scalyz space.

The state of your environment is attached to your request automatically. Support replies within 4 working hours, 9am to 6pm Paris time. If a problem on our side stopped you from continuing, this attempt is not held against you and you receive new access. There is nothing to report to your recruiter.

What to include
